First off, I want to thank our brilliant members who voted to use Gray, Turquoise, and Pink as this contest's sub-theme. I was very worried we'd end up with easy colors to work with.
You all took on this challenge WONDERFULLY.
And the winners are...
In The Judge's Section:
First Place:
with Each Uisge
This is just an astounding piece no matter how you look at it! The use of our color restriction was brilliant and wonderfully incorporated. Congrats on first place!
Second Place:
with the Gorgon Medusa
Another brilliant piece -- this time with tons of detail. We never thought we'd get to see Medusa look so fierce with pink accents. Great stuff!
Third Place:
with Devourer of the Dead
A wonderful depiction of Egypt's devourer of the dead. Taking on the task of this fabled beast with the color restriction must have been something else. Congrats on placing!
In The Popular Vote Section:
First Place:
with Fenrir Bound
Second Place:
with Norka
Third Place:
Just Wait Until These April Showers End

Concept
Beasts and Monsters of Myth
For this contest you will be drawing your favorite creatures from actual myth.
And, this is our first contest to feature a secondary theme! -- the use of only three colors, pink, turquoise, and gray.
Read on if it sounds interesting/challenging to you!
Here's some additional information and clarification
- You can choose to draw any beast/animal/bug/ etc. from any myth/legend/folklore etc. And any creature is allowed as long as it's not human or in the general shape of a human. Things that are part-human are allowed, too. (Like Ra or the Minotaur)
- This time we're only doing creatures actually based in myth and Legend! So, if you choose to do something, make sure it's based in actual myth. (you should be able to point out a tale that actually contains this creature.)
- The colors pink, turquoise, and gray MUST be used in your picture. It doesn't matter in how big a capacity, but every color must be used.
- You can't use any other color than pink, turquoise or gray to color your image. Not even white or black.
- You can, however, outline your image in black. Some of you are inkists, and I'm not going to make you change your style. Just, be sure to not make your outlines huge. There should be more of the other colors than outlines. (And no black shadows, either!)
- Here's a really basic color swatch of our three colors for an example of how light/dark our colors can get: zimeta08.deviantart.com/art/Co…
- If I find that you accidentally used a pink that's a little more on the purple side or a turquoise that's a little too blue , I probably won't care as long as it's not all over the picture. Hehe. I'm not gonna be a jerk about this.
- And yes, a little color blending is just fine. (Like if your turquoise mixes with your pink by accident, that's alright with us.)
- Do not submit an old work of art. It must be new and created after this contest was put up [March 27th, 2011]
- Do not copy the work of somebody else. Your art must be completely your own. (No tracing!)
- Writing is allowed. I feel like crud whenever I have exclude writers. So, if you're a writer and you want to enter, feel free. But, the only colors you're allowed to use in description are pink, gray, and turquoise. And, you must put some sort of emphasis on the colors.
- Fanart is allowed, as long as it's from a movie/TV show etc. based on actual myth.
- Do not make up your own myth this time. Keep it real!
- You can be as serious or comical as you want. There's no restriction on your genre.
- Any medium is acceptable. Ex: Sculpture, Digital, traditional, costume... anything!
- You may have up to two entries this time. But that's the limit.
- Keep it clean. Artistic nudity is allowed, but of course, no porn or really gross stuff.
- You may enter the contest even if you're not a member.
- When you're done, post a comment with a link to your entry here, and I'll add it to the list.
- Also! I've created a folder for our new contest in the gallery called, "Contest 9 - Beasts and Monsters of Myth". Be sure to submit there. myths-and-legends.deviantart.c…
-When the contest is over, we'll put up a deviation with all the entries on it, and the members will vote on which one they think is best. We'll also have a judging section. So, three entries will be chosen by popular vote, and three will be chosen by judges.
- If you have any additional questions, either comment here, note the club, or note the owner,(DrZime)

How to gain points with the judges:
[x] Create a scene! Don't just draw Coyote standing around doing nothing! Show us what makes your chosen myth special! (I'm sure you writers won't have a problem with this.)
[x] Tell us all about your inspiration in your description. The more we know about your work process, the better chance you'll have of winning.
[x] Be creative! Don't just draw a pretty Bastet sitting in flowers smiling. We want to feel something when we look at your myth.

Question about our next contest!
The votes for our next contest are in, and Myths of the Sea won.
BUT. I have a question.
We recently already had a contest dedicated solely to mermaids.
This being said, would y'all still want to enter if I banned Mermaids from the contest? Otherwise I can already envision half the entries being mermaids again. :/
Let me know- please comment. :)
