What the judges were saying: This piece by JurijScar caught the judge's eye by its wonderful storytelling,
and how each of the bonus points was included. The fairies are unique, and the addition of
the squirrel friend is just too cute. Wonderful work all around!
Second Place
What the judges were saying: The design of this fairy was one of the best in the contest, with
the non-traditional face structure and the way the water flows into the dress, the judges could not
overlook this amazing artwork by hello-heydi.
Third Place
What the judges were saying: This adorable piece by ToxicWyvern features a little fairy boy bringing home a pet he found
- just proving little kids are the same no matter if they're humans or fairies. XD We loved how they're dressed in the same color,
and how the premise is ripe to spark a cute tale for a picture book.

For this contest you'll be drawing/writing about Fairies!
- The contest is as simple as it sounds! Draw a fairy!
- For the purposes of this contest and a bit of consistency, a fairy must have the following:
Must have wings
Be under 1ft/0.3048M tall
Have humanoid features/ have human characteristics (Can be a small amount or large amount. Doesn't matter. The main reason this rule is here is so that someone doesn't draw a grasshopper and claim it's a fairy XD)
Other than that, the sky's the limit! (As a side note if you have a fairy that meets the criteria above in your artwork/literature, feel free to also include one that doesn't fit the criteria as well. Just as long as you have ONE that fits it, you're good to go)
Additional Points - each worth +5 in the popular vote section
Include a female AND male fairy in your picture/literature (doesn't have to be a romantic couple)
Include a normal-sized being in your picture/literature for size comparison (can be a human, an animal, or even an insect)
You MUST include which points you included in your description so we don't have to do guesswork! If you don't include which points you added to your entry in the description, you won't get any additional points.
- No vulgarity. Artistic nudity is fine.
- No fanart. All designs must be your own. Incorporating classical features of legendary characters into your art is fine, though.
- No literary characters. So nothing from Shakespeare or JM Barrie and the like.
- Don't copy characters either. For example if we see a fairy who's obviously a rip-off of Disney's Tinkerbell, your entry won't be accepted.
- Do not submit an old work of art. It must be new and created after this contest was put up [May 14th, 2016]
- Do not copy/trace the work of somebody else. Your art must be completely your own.
- You can be as serious or comical as you want.
- If you've already designed a fairy character and you want to use it for this contest, feel free to. Just remember your artwork/literature must be new to enter it in the contest.
- Please include a bit about your fairy in your description. The judges generally like to know a bit about your character's world/story. It often adds to the appeal.
- Any medium is acceptable. Ex: Sculpture, Digital, traditional, costume... anything!
- Yes, that means writing/literature is allowed.
- For literature participants: don't make your story too long; the judges and voters can't spend too long going through your work. Aim for 15 pages or less.
- ***When you submit your entry to deviantART, PLEASE mention that it's for the contest in this group somewhere in your description. Not because we need more promotion, but because there are a ton of people who submit to the wrong folder and don't even mean to try to enter the contest.
If you don't mention that your illustration is for this contest in the description, it will be removed from the folder.***
- You may have up to two entries this time. But that's the limit.
- Keep it clean. No porn, no really gross stuff. Keep it tasteful. If you have any questions about taste level, send us a note or leave a comment.
- You may enter the contest even if you're not a member. Just be sure to give us a link so we can add it.
- When you're done, post a comment with a link to your entry here, and I'll add it to the list.
- Also! I've created a folder for our new contest in the gallery called, "Contest 19 - Fairies". Be sure to submit there.
-When the contest is over, we'll put up a blog with all the entries on it, and the members will vote on which one they think is best.
- If you have any additional questions, either comment here, note the club, or note the owner, (DrZime)
Creativity! The best artwork won't necessarily win. The artist who thinks out of the box and puts in a ton of work will win.
Make a scene! Interaction, impact!
Effort. The judges can really tell how much effort was put into an image.
Think outside the box!
Your panel of judges are:
Judges may enter too, if they want. But, you won't be up for the winning in the judge's section.
Three winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, and three will be chosen by popular vote. If we don't get up to 21 entries, we will take the popular vote section away.
If you're interested in doing a prize request for one or more of the winners, just note or comment here!
If you're willing to donate a subscription to one of the winners, just let us know!

Kendal was a fairymantis or ‘manty’, a type of fairy with the features of a praying mantis, as was her mother. Manties usually came up to the knee on a normal human-being; but Kendal was also wheelchair-bound. It would be hard for her to get around and clean up the castle being so small and disabled, especially since Mom would be working in the kitchen and wouldn't be able to help her get around.
Her mother followed the princess in through the gate, wheeling Kendal in in front of her she went, oohing and aaahing at the intricacies of the castle’s design–the fine marble with golden trim, the excellently kept gardens, and even the residents of the keep themselves were a splendor to look at.
Kendal was happy to be there despite the fact that Princess Rihanna didn't pay the fairies who worke

Question about our next contest!
The votes for our next contest are in, and Myths of the Sea won.
BUT. I have a question.
We recently already had a contest dedicated solely to mermaids.
This being said, would y'all still want to enter if I banned Mermaids from the contest? Otherwise I can already envision half the entries being mermaids again. :/
Let me know- please comment. :)
